Sunday, 3/22: Mt. Pacaya and Club Guatemala
We climbed a majority of Pacaya's 2500 meters. One of 25 volcanoes in Guatemala, Pacaya is considered the smallest volcano, but I still thought it was quite a climb.
This Guatemalan mountaineer, Jaime ViƱals, guided us up the volcano. He is the first Central American to climb Mount Everest and is planning to come the 50 highest summits in the world in the next year. He said that National Geographic airs a few of his expeditions.
This adorable man taught me how to drink water. He told me that I should hold the water in my mouth until it reaches room temperature because cold water takes more energy to digest.

We spent a lot of time "moonwalking" down a hill of lava ash. After Jaime showed us the lava and we watched lava ooze out behind crumbling rocks, we climbed over lava rocks and down the mountain. Everyone came down the mountain dusty, sweaty and tired, but climbing Pacaya was exhilarating.
Club Guatemala.
